Fernando Diniz now holds the longest unbeaten run by a coach of a Brazilian club in the Copa Libertadores, reaching 18 matches, Superscore Brasil reports.

The milestone was sealed with Corinthians' 1-1 draw at Independiente Santa Fe in Bogotá in the group stage. The sequence spans 2023 to 2026, covering 14 games with Fluminense and four with Corinthians.

Diniz's last loss in the competition came in June 2023, when Fluminense were beaten 2-0 by River Plate at the Estadio Monumental de Núñez, also in the groups. Fluminense then put together an eight match unbeaten run and ultimately lifted the Libertadores against Boca Juniors at the Maracanã.

Abel Ferreira previously topped the list with 17 matches without defeat between 2023 and 2024 with Palmeiras. Between 2021 and 2022 the club went 18 games unbeaten, but Ferreira missed two of those fixtures, so only 16 are counted for him in this ranking.

Diniz can still extend the mark this season. Corinthians have group games to come against Peñarol in Uruguay and Platense in São Paulo, and they are very close to reaching the last 16, which would guarantee at least two more knockout ties.
