As the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 reaches the halfway stage, we look at the teams who have made the Round of 16…

Over the next five days, 16 teams will compete for a place in the Club World Cup quarter-finals as the tournament edges towards the ‘business end’ of proceedings.

There is no room for error as genuine jeopardy is added to the mix as we enter the knockout phase.

All eight Round of 16 fixtures will be settled either in the allotted 90 minutes, or extra time if necessary and a penalty shootout if the teams still cannot be separated.

Though there have been some excellent attendances, some of the group games attracted smaller crowds for the early weekday kick-offs.

More than 54,000 watched City beat Juventus 5-2 at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, and the entertainment provided in that game is sure to mean another healthy gate as the Blues return to the same venue to take on Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal in the early hours of Tuesday morning (02:00 AM UK time).

There are some fascinating matchups elsewhere, too.

Starting today (Saturday, 28 June) at 17:00 (UK), there is an all-Brazilian clash between Palmeiras and Botafogo.

Palmeiras have recent links to City, with the Blues signing both Vitor Reis and Gabriel Jesus from the Brazil club in recent years.

The Serie A season is only a dozen games in and Palmeiras sit in fourth, with Botafogo in eighth.

The teams met in the league back in March with Palmeiras hosting a 0-0 draw.

Next up on Saturday evening is the clash between Benfica and Chelsea (21:00 UK).

With the temperature in Charlotte likely to be around 33 degrees around kick-off time, the conditions may suit the Portuguese more with Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca recently claiming the heat had been “too hot to train in”.

The winners of Saturday’s clashes will meet in the last eight.

On Sunday, Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain take on Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.

Whether the MSL side can cause a major upset or not remains to be seen, but again it will be hot and humid in Atlanta for the midday kick-off local time (17:00 UK) with the possibility of thunderstorms.

The early evening fixture between Flamengo and Bayern Munich at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida is almost certain to be affected by thundery showers.

It will be a tricky contest for Vincent Kompany’s side, with Flamengo not only better suited to the heat and humidity, but the Brazilians currently top Serie A with only one loss in their opening 11 games.

As with all the double daily fixtures, the winners of both games will meet in the quarter-finals.

On Monday, yet another Brazilian side are in action as they take on Inter Milan at the Bank of America Stadium in North Carolina.

The match starts at 15:00 local time, (20:00 UK) and the winners will face either City or Al Hilal meaning there is a possibility of a repeat of either the 2023 Club World Cup final or the 2023 Champions League final should the Blues progress.

City’s game kicks-off in Orlando at 21:00 local time – that’s 02:00 on Tuesday morning UK time.

The Saudi Arabians will likely have a number of familiar faces in their line-up with former City star Joao Cancelo among their number, as well ex-Premier League talent in the shape of Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ruben Neves.

On Tuesday afternoon (15:00 local time), Real Madrid face Juventus in a mouth-watering all-European tie at the Hard Rock Stadium with the winners facing either Borussia Dortmund or Mexican side Monterey, who face off at 21:00 local time on Tuesday evening (02:00 Wednesday UK) at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
