FIFA has launched an investigation into a confrontation between streamer IShowSpeed and a fan at Friday’s World Cup match between Argentina and Cape Verde.
IShowSpeed was livestreaming the game and could be heard asking a fan in an Argentina jersey what was being said toward him. The fan, speaking in Spanish, appeared to be telling IShowSpeed, who is Black, to “go cry to the zoo.”
"FIFA strongly condemns racism, hate and discrimination in all forms. These actions have no place in football, at the FIFA World Cup, or anywhere in society," FIFA said in a statement on Tuesday.
"FIFA was made aware of an incident involving a supporter and #IShowSpeed at Miami Stadium during the Argentina vs Cabo Verde match on 3 July 2026 and immediately initiated an investigation.
"The FIFA World Cup is a celebration of unity, diversity and respect. It brings together people, cultures and communities from around the world, and anyone who acts in a manner that undermines these values is not welcome in our game."

IShowSpeed and his publicists didn’t immediately comment on the FIFA investigation. The 21-year-old American streamer, who is known as a big soccer fan, has more than 50 million YouTube subscribers, 45 million Instagram followers and 47 million on TikTok.
In a separate incident, France star Kylian Mbappé on Monday condemned a Paraguayan senator over racist remarks she made following Paraguay’s loss to France in the round of 16 at the World Cup.
Celeste Amarilla posted a series of racist comments on X after Mbappé converted the winning penalty in France’s victory over Paraguay Saturday, mocking the French captain’s origins, upbringing, education and appearance. France advanced to the quarterfinals and will face Morocco Thursday.
Mbappé called Celeste Amarilla, a senator from Paraguay’s Liberal Radical Party, a “despicable woman” who was “unworthy” of serving in Paraguay's Congress.
“Through your recklessness and your brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and the historic effort that your players accomplished during this World Cup,” Mbappé wrote on X.
Late Monday, Amarilla issued an open letter in French and Spanish to Mbappé on social media, saying her problem was with the player, not the country of France. She wrote that she regretted mistreating Mbappé with “the same insults” she’s received as a mixed-race person and that she had deleted her post.
But she also demanded an apology from Mbappé and threatened legal action if he didn’t retract them.
The Paraguayan government released a statement condemning Amarilla’s remarks as “contrary to the values and principles that inspire peaceful coexistence and respect for human dignity that our country promotes.” It added that the senator’s comments do not represent either the Paraguayan government or the Paraguayan people.
