FIFA has dismissed as false and misleading any suggestion that Gianni Infantino promised the venue for the 2030 World Cup final, adding that a decision will be taken in due course after Wednesday’s meeting in Rabat.

According to The Times, Infantino offered Morocco the 2030 final in exchange for support to remain in office, and is described as desperate to secure backing for a further four years from 2027.

Infantino is under significant pressure following his failed plan to sell World Cup stakes to private investors, and travelled to Morocco on Wednesday amid efforts to ease the crisis.

The 2030 tournament will be co-hosted by Spain, Morocco and Portugal, with three matches to be staged in South America.

Morocco is seeking to stage the final at the Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca, while Spain hopes the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid will be selected.

Associations in England, Wales and Serbia have withdrawn support for Infantino, and former Portugal international Luis Figo called for his resignation on Wednesday.
