Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay have had their final World Cup build-up disrupted by a travel delay ahead of their Group H opener.

FIFA said an airline permitting error in Mexico delayed the team’s departure from Cancun to Miami, and a second plane was needed after the initial flight was cancelled.

The disruption meant Bielsa missed his scheduled pre-match press conference on Sunday, meeting the media later once the squad had landed in the United States.

He played down the episode and considered the flight no problem.

Uruguay face Saudi Arabia tonight, kick-off 11pm. Bielsa, a Leeds United favourite, led the club to promotion in 2020 and a top 10 Premier League finish.
