FIFA to quiz VAR official from Germany-Curaçao clash over alleged 'racist' gesture | OneFootball

FIFA is seeking an explanation over a hand gesture made by video assistant referee Shaun Evans before Germany's 7-1 win over Curaçao.

When the camera cut to the VAR room on Sunday, Evans was standing in the screen-laiden zone with his arm by his side.

The Australian arbiter then could be seen making the fingers of his right hand into an upside down 'OK' sign.

According to the BBC, the gesture has two distinct meanings – one harmless and one deemed an expression of white supremacy.

The incident was immediately subject to a huge amount of online speculation – FIFA is yet to issue an official response or explanation.

However, BBC Sport has been told by sources that FIFA is looking for answers from the 38-year-old VAR official as to it's meaning.

Some individuals online have supposedly debunked the gesture, labelling it nothing more than a humorous childhood game.

The idea being that an person forms the upside down ‘OK’ symbol by their hip and attempts to get unsuspecting friends to see it.
