According to The Times, FIFA are in talks with IFAB over changing the pre-penalty shoot-out coin toss during this World Cup.

The current procedure uses two coin tosses, one to choose the end and another to decide which team shoots first.

Under the proposal, there would be one flip. The winning captain would select either the end or the shooting order, with the remaining choice going to the opposition.

IFAB, which oversees the Laws of the Game, would need to rule before the first knockout match on Sunday evening to confirm any implementation at this tournament.

The report says FIFA believes the change could make shoot-outs fairer.
