Who is playing today? 👀

This Group J clash pits two sides against each other who know the importance of picking up points after chastening defeats in their opening games.

Jordan proved resilient in their meeting with Austria and Ali Olwan gave them a moment to remember on their World Cup™ debut with a superbly well-taken equaliser before they ultimately succumbed to a 3-1 defeat.

Algeria simply had no match for the maestro that is Lionel Messi, whose hat-trick inspired holders Argentina to a 3-0 win.

Players to watch 🔥

Olwan will look to continue where he left off for Jordan but he wasn't the only man who impressed and Noor Al-Rawabdeh was one of only two players in their clash with Austria to hit double figures for line-breaking passes, while also winning possession back more than any other player on his team (eight times).

Despite the defeat for Algeria, Aïssa Mandi became the first African player since records began in 1966 to complete 100+ passes in a FIFA World Cup™ fixture, with a 95.2% success rate.

Farès Chaïbi also carried on where he left off at Africa Cup of Nations, with four of Algeria's seven shots against Argentina being either taken or created by the Eintracht Frankfurt man.

If you can't be at the stadium, this was very much the next best thing for those cheering on Jordan!

Fun facts 📊

  • This is Jordan and Algeria's first meeting since an end-of-season friendly in 2004 which ended 1-1
  • After winning two of their first three World Cup™ fixtures, Algeria have since won just one of their last 11 (D3, L7)
  • Jordan have failed to win any of their last six games (D2, L4) which is as many defeats as they suffered in the 13 games before that

Our prediction 🔮

  1. Jordan 1-1 Algeria
