Filipe Luís visited Flamengo’s Ninho do Urubu on Tuesday to say goodbye to players and staff after his sacking, and he was visibly emotional.

According to Globo.com, he was dismissed in the early hours at the Maracanã after a press conference following the 8-0 win over Madureira. He could not take his leave at the stadium because the squad had already departed and were caught by surprise.

He asked to return in the afternoon to address the group, gathered the players, wished them luck and stressed their strength, saying it had been a pleasure to realise his dream of coaching Flamengo. He added that he would continue to support their success. The meeting lasted about 15 minutes, and others present were also moved.

Rodrigo Caio attended, as did Ivan Palanco and Diogo Linhares. As they left the training ground, they spoke with Jorginho for a while. Filipe departed in his own car and waved to those outside.

Tuesday had been scheduled as a day off, but the board changed plans after deciding on a change of head coach and informed the players as they left the Maracanã. The squad reported back at around 15:00 at Ninho do Urubu.
