Filipe Luís can claim maiden Recopa and draw level as Flamengo’s most decorated coach | OneFootball

Filipe Luís will chase a sixth trophy as Flamengo coach from Thursday when Lanús await in the Recopa Sudamericana. According to Globo.com, a win would bring his first Recopa as manager and draw him level as the club’s most decorated coach.

The tie starts in Buenos Aires, with the return in Rio.

Flamengo’s only Recopa came in 2020, when, as Libertadores holders, they met Independiente del Valle. It finished 2-2 away before a 3-0 home victory.

In 2023, Filipe missed the Recopa against the Ecuadorians. Flamengo lost 1-0 away, won 1-0 in Brazil, then fell 5-4 on penalties.

He has spoken of seeing just one Recopa on the wall at the Ninho do Urubu and of the push to add another. He called it a difficult title and noted the club has only one in 130 years.

Since taking charge in October 2024, he has won five of nine competitions, and is already joint second with Flávio Costa and Jorge Jesus. If he lifts the Recopa, he will match Carlinhos. Across his Flamengo career he has 15 trophies, 10 as a player and five as coach.
