Flamengo announced the departure of head coach Filipe Luís in the early hours of Tuesday, shortly after the 8-0 win over Madureira. The coach only learned he would not remain in charge after addressing journalists.

According to Coluna Do Fla, he held his post-match press conference unaware he had been dismissed. President Bap then phoned sporting director José Boto, who met Filipe Luís and communicated the decision.

The news followed the rout, where Flamengo swept Madureira 8-0 at the Maracanã. Filipe Luís completed his media duties before being informed.

In the media room he reflected on the protests, saying his love for Flamengo would endure even if he were no longer in post the next day, and he believed the supporters' affection for him would too. He felt the scrutiny was necessary, had made him better, and said he had lived the best years of his life at the club.

Without Filipe Luís, Flamengo will now finalise plans for the Campeonato Carioca final. They face Fluminense on Sunday 08 at 18:00 Brasília time at the Maracanã in a single match.
