Man City manager Andrée Jeglertz

Opposing manager: Amy Merricks

Amy Merricks is currently managing her second season with Birmingham in what is also just her second campaign as a permanent manager at first team level and has enjoyed some highs with the Blues.

Merricks was appointed manager in April 2024 and went incredibly close to guiding Birmingham to the WSL2 title last season, losing out to London City Lionesses on the final day, but with only a handful of games remaining, she has her side competing at the right end of the table again this term.

Before her move to Birmingham, Merricks was learning her trade with England as the Head Coach of the Women’s Under-19 team, having also held several coaching roles at different levels at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Previous meeting

We’ve got to go back to May 2022 for our last meeting with Birmingham, and it was a convincing 6-0 home win for City.

It was a hard-fought first half from both sides that saw it level at 0-0 going into the break before City came out and put six past the then WSL side.

A brace from Georgia Stanway was accompanied by strikes from Lauren Hemp, Alanna Kennedy, Chloe Kelly and Laura Coombs.

Last time out

City recorded an important 3-0 win against Manchester United last time out, recording the double over our neighbours at Old Trafford.

We stormed into a lead thanks to Vivianne Miedema who headed home twice in quick succession to put us ahead before the break, which was the least we deserved after an impressive and quick start to the game.

A third from Kerstin Casparij, her first in a Manchester derby, in front of our fantastic away support rounded off what was an enjoyable and important afternoon in the WSL.
