Fiorentina ‘to be’ favourites for Mastantuono loan from Real Madrid | OneFootball

Fiorentina are emerging as frontrunners to take Real Madrid teenager Franco Mastantuono on loan this season.

TyC Sports and Diario AS report that Fiorentina are favourites to land Mastantuono on a dry loan, with no option to make the move permanent. The clubs meet in Austria on 1 August for a friendly, providing an opportunity to discuss terms.

Mastantuono will turn 19 next month and was signed from River Plate last summer for €45m plus add-ons.

He has struggled for regular minutes in Madrid, so the plan is a loan this term to gain experience of European football.

Other destinations have been floated, including Fulham, Villarreal, Real Sociedad and Sevilla, Sporting CP, Juventus, or a return to River Plate.

This may also be inspired by the impressive growth of fellow Argentina international Nico Paz at Como, although that has turned into a form of co-ownership deal.

Mastantuono has Italian heritage, so would not take up a non-EU slot in the Fiorentina squad. He has made 35 appearances for Real Madrid, starting 17, scoring three goals and receiving a red card against Getafe.
