Leeds United lost 3-2 to Championship side Wrexham in their first pre-season friendly in the United States, revealing early pointers for Daniel Farke.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Farke opened with a back three of Rodon, James Justin and Alfie Cresswell, then moved to a back four with Ethan Ampadu at centre-back and a 4-2-3-1 of Nmecha ahead of Wilson, Dan James and Gnonto. Ao Tanaka’s turnover preceded Wrexham’s winner.

Sean Longstaff strengthened his case, playing well and scoring. If Farke goes with two in midfield, Ampadu and Anton Stach look set, with Longstaff, Tanaka and Ilia Gruev the other natural options.

Wilson threatened immediately, sending Gnonto through within two minutes of his debut and later clipping just over in the 93rd minute. The role suited him as a no 10, though he could also start on the right.

Callum Mills, 17, stood out among the youngsters, starting behind Joel Piroe and threading smart passes, including the move that should have put Gnonto in before the break. Lienou and Cresswell had testing moments, while Chadwick, Pickles, Crew and Lane also appeared.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has had a small setback and is training individually, and Jaka Bijol has a knee knock. Sebastiaan Bornauw was not risked and Gruev remains out. With Noah Okafor on an extended break after Switzerland’s World Cup, Leeds again looked light up front. Piroe equalised with a backheel after hitting an early penalty against the post, while Nmecha held the ball up without threatening. Another striker would look sensible.
