Grêmio returned to training at CT Luiz Carvalho on Wednesday afternoon, although five players were absent. The squad had been on holiday since 31 May, when the World Cup pause began, and the day before they lost 3-1 to Corinthians at the Arena.

According to Globo.com, Gabriel Mec will report on Friday, with Amuzu, Noriega and Villasanti due on Saturday. Striker Roger was excused to attend the birth of his child and is set to return on Thursday.

No reasons were given for Mec and Villasanti arriving later. Mec featured for Brazil in friendlies on six and nine, and on Tuesday posted family photos from the United States.

Villasanti, who overcame a serious knee injury before the pause, also spent his break in the United States. He had hoped to represent Paraguay at the World Cup, but was not called up.

Goalkeeper Gabriel Grando, previously sidelined by a hand fracture, and Juan Nardoni, back from a muscle injury, trained on Wednesday.

Grêmio plan two friendlies and a training game during the hiatus. They are likely to face Chapeconense on five July in Sinop, Mato Grosso, and a meeting with Cruzeiro on 12 July in Belo Horizonte is close to confirmation.

A training match with Cascavel in Paraná is set for the 27th. A proposed Brasília tournament with Corinthians and Flamengo did not advance. The Brazilian Championship resumes from 22 July.
