Flaco López is nearing a return for Palmeiras after the World Cup with Argentina. According to Globo.com, the striker is due to report back at the start of next week while on club-sanctioned leave in his home country.

On his return he will be assessed by the club’s health and performance staff to judge whether he can be included against Vitória.

Palmeiras travel on Tuesday and face the Bahia side at 21:30 on Wednesday at Barradão in the 21st round of the Brasileiro.

Before then they host Atlético-MG at 19:30 on Sunday at Nubank Parque in the 20th round, a match the Argentine will not feature in.

His comeback matters both for his profile and the context, with Palmeiras resuming the league short in attack. An effective trio of Mauricio, Jhon Arias and Sosa has emerged, but the Paraguayan is suspended for Atlético-MG.

For Vitória, Sosa and Allan will at least return from suspension, and Vitor Roque and Felipe Anderson, progressing after surgery and a thigh oedema respectively, have increased chances of playing.

López last appeared for Palmeiras on 28 May in the 4-1 win over Junior Barranquilla, supplying two assists in the Libertadores group finale.

He then joined Argentina for friendlies against Iceland and Honduras and the 2026 World Cup, featuring twice and assisting in the 3-1 win over Switzerland that sealed a semi-final place.

The final was on 19 July, after which Palmeiras players involved were granted roughly one week off. López has 14 goals and eight assists in 35 games this year, chasing 25 and six in 64 in 2025 and 22 and seven in 61 in 2024.
