Flaco López has rejoined Palmeiras after Argentina duty at the World Cup and could be involved against Vitória. According to Globo.com, the forward reported back on Monday morning.
He returned to the Academia de Futebol for medical tests, though the club do not view his fitness as an issue. López played only 18 minutes across Argentina’s campaign, eight in the group stage and 10 in extra time of the quarter-final against Switzerland.
That knockout tie was his high point, as he assisted Julián Álvarez for Argentina’s second goal in the win. His first day back also included work on the grass with the squad. There is a possibility he will travel with the group to Salvador, and he is the club’s leading scorer this season with 14 goals.
Those who started the defeat to Atlético-MG completed sessions in the club’s recovery and neuroscience centre. The remaining players trained on the pitch, split into two teams of eight for small-sided drills focused on possession, marking and combination play.
Khellven, Barboza and Sosa, suspended in the last match, trained outside, as did Vitor Roque and Felipe Anderson. All could strengthen the side in the next round.
Palmeiras, Abel Ferreira’s side, face Vitória at 21:30 on Wednesday at the Barradão in the 21st round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. The leaders saw their advantage trimmed by that home loss to Atlético-MG.
