Flamengo and Palmeiras ‘to monitor’ Southampton right-back Welington | OneFootball

With the transfer window closed, Flamengo and Palmeiras are monitoring Southampton right-back Welington ahead of the next period.

According to Rádio Tupi, neither club has tabled a bid as they assess a move, while Southampton are seeking three million euros, around R$ 17.9 million.

Welington is under contract at Southampton until June 2029 but has featured little. Over two years he has played 28 matches, 17 this season, with one assist.

He came through São Paulo, making his senior debut in 2020. The Morumbi club agreed his switch to Southampton in 2024, and he signed on a free after his deal expired.

Flamengo currently have two right-backs. Varela is the first choice for Leonardo Jardim, with Emerson Royal as back-up. Danilo can also cover the role.

While the window remains shut, Flamengo focus on their schedule. They face Fluminense on Saturday 11 at 18:30 Brasília time at Maracanã, in round 11 of the Brasileirão.
