Flamengo have appointed Leonardo Jardim as their new head coach, and will present him today at Ninho do Urubu. According to Coluna Do Fla, he succeeds Filipe Luís and will face the media after morning training.
Press access to the training centre opens at 11:00, Brasília time, with the news conference due to start at 12:00.
Jardim’s start is demanding. His first match is the Carioca final against Fluminense on Sunday, and before then he is tasked with lifting the squad’s mood.
Flamengo arrive at the final after finishing runners-up in the Supercopa do Brasil to Corinthians and the Recopa to Lanús of Argentina. The manner of Filipe Luís’s dismissal has also shaken the dressing room.
The Spanish assistant Ivan Palanko, the last of the four departing backroom staff to speak, posted a farewell on Wednesday. He thanked those who supported the group, said he returns home feeling half carioca and completely rubro-negro thanks to Filipe, and called the shared dressing room a unique experience.
