Flamengo issue official statement criticising CBF's actions | OneFootball

“The Flamengo Regatta Club expresses its disagreement with the unilateral decision of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), signed by the Director of Competitions Júlio Avellar, to change the official calendar of the Brazilian Championship already with more than half of the competition disputed. The fact that the Intercontinental Club Tournament is scheduled for December 2025 was already known to the CBF since February, when the year's calendar was announced. Therefore, there is no news that justifies the measure adopted. At the Technical Council of Series A, in March of this year, it was Flamengo itself who raised this issue, without any suggestion or solution presented by the CBF in what was the appropriate forum for such measures. The decision, which anticipates rounds and shortens the dispute period, imposes on Flamengo a greater load of games and long trips in a reduced interval, in some cases even disrespecting the minimum period of 66 hours between matches — especially after dates of the South American Qualifiers for the World Cup. Such a scenario compromises the sports planning of the season and, above all, the health of the athletes. The measure also indirectly favors clubs that do not participate in the current edition of the Copa Libertadores of America, creating an unacceptable sports imbalance in a tournament that should value equality among its competitors. Since 2003, when the Brazilian Championship began to be disputed in the points race format, the integrity of the table has always been preserved, with punctual adjustments only in exceptional situations. In more than two decades, there has never been a change of such magnitude with the competition underway. The decision shows little appreciation for the organization that Brazilian football demands, disrespecting athletes, clubs, fans, sponsors, rights holders, and the entire sports industry. It is also noteworthy that the CBF systematically denies punctual requests for table adjustments under the allegation of television interests, but, contradictorily, unilaterally imposes the anticipation of so many rounds, without taking into account the opinion of a club directly involved in the Libertadores dispute. Flamengo reaffirms its commitment to the dispute of the Brazilian Championship, with sports integrity, with the fairness of the competition and with respect to its millions of fans. In view of the above, the club demands from the CBF, especially from its president Samir Xaud, that he reconsider the decision, in order to preserve the credibility of one of the biggest tournaments in world football.
