Flamengo moved to clarify the situation around their nine World Cup call-ups after questions over Arrascaeta’s injury and availability. The club used the episode to outline how internationals are handled during the tournament period.

The club said in a statement that during the FIFA World Cup 2026 period, all called-up players are the exclusive responsibility of their national associations, and that it supplied each federation with a full dossier on every player and their physical condition.

While with their countries, players follow the programme, protocols and oversight of national coaching and medical staff, with no operational link to Flamengo until they return after international duty.

Arrascaeta sustained a medium-grade calf injury on Tuesday 02 and is expected to be out for about 20 days. Questions from supporters and journalists about a possible withdrawal or further details were met with a reminder that responsibility lies with the national teams.

Uruguay have Arrascaeta, Nico de la Cruz and Guillermo Varela. Brazil named Danilo, Léo Pereira, Alex Sandro and Lucas Paquetá. Ecuador called forward Gonzalo Plata and Colombia selected midfielder Jorge Carrascal.
