With the 2026 World Cup approaching, FIFA has accepted a Conmebol request so clubs in the Libertadores and Sudamericana will not lose players to call-ups for their final group matches. According to Coluna Do Fla, that decision directly benefits Flamengo.
The sixth and final round of the group stage is scheduled for 25-29 May. Under FIFA rules, called-up players are normally due a 25-day rest and preparation period, but article 25 allows availability for final group fixtures.
Flamengo will be able to call on those players for their last group game, at home to Cusco of Peru on Tuesday 26 May, 21:30 Brasília time, at the Maracanã.
Looking ahead to the tournament, Flamengo are likely to lose players to several national teams. For Brazil, Carlo Ancelotti has already confirmed Danilo’s inclusion, and Léo Pereira, Pedro, Lucas Paquetá and Alex Sandro could also be involved.
In Uruguay’s set-up, Arrascaeta is racing to recover from surgery on his right clavicle. In Bielsa’s team, De La Cruz and Varela are certain picks. Carrascal and Plata are tipped for Colombia and Ecuador respectively.
