Carlo Ancelotti has named Lucas Paquetá and Ibañez in Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad, and the Flamengo midfielder publicly welcomed the former Fluminense defender.
"Congratulations on the call-up, Ibañez, I hope we can be very happy at this World Cup. It is a unique feeling, nothing compares to playing a World Cup and living those moments, and I am very happy and grateful to be going to my second World Cup," he told Cazé TV.
Paquetá is enjoying an upturn after a difficult spell in English football. Having returned to Flamengo, he has rediscovered form and now heads to the World Cup.
Alongside Paquetá, Ancelotti also selected three other Flamengo players for the tournament, Danilo, Alex Sandro and Léo Pereira. Brazil therefore include a defensive trio from the club.
Before World Cup preparations begin, Flamengo face Estudiantes of Argentina on Wednesday 20, in the fifth round of the Libertadores. Kick-off is at 21:30 Brasília time at the Maracanã.
