A year after Real Madrid treated his renewal as a formality, Vinícius Júnior has entered his final year without a deal and positions remain far apart. The club fears losing him for nothing, and Florentino Pérez could sell if demands are not reduced.
According to The Athletic, Arsenal are exploring a move amid the standstill in talks. Vinícius arrived in 2018 for just over 60 million and has repeatedly signalled he wants to renew, yet his future is uncertain.
Roc Nation, which represents Vinícius and Yan Diomandé, lands in Madrid on Monday to try to finalise the RB Leipzig winger’s 120 million switch, while also addressing the Brazilian’s case. Madrid are concurrently advancing on Rodri amid a wider overhaul.
Diomandé would give a natural option on the right, and his versatility across both flanks makes him the likeliest first arrival. Rodri is viewed as a footballer who can be a system for Mourinho.
The sticking point is money. Vinícius’s camp want a 15 million loyalty bonus, payable only if the new deal is completed in full, plus wages near Kylian Mbappé’s, around 30 million gross per season. He is 26 and seeking a career-defining contract.
The agreement is not broken, but it is at the limit, and if he does not renew Madrid intend to sell. Arsenal have made the first move with a proposal that could reach 160 million, which would also ease Barça’s pursuit of Julián Álvarez. A market domino could follow.
