Fluminense face significant absences for Sunday’s trip to Santos at Vila Belmiro in the 12th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, kick-off 16:00 Brasília time.

According to Diario Do Peixe, Lucho Acosta has sustained a grade 2 medial collateral ligament injury in his left knee, confirmed by tests on Monday in Rio de Janeiro, and is expected to miss three to four weeks. The issue mirrors the problem suffered by Alexsander in 2023.

Without the Argentine, the team’s leader for goal involvements in the league with three goals and three assists, Paulo Henrique Ganso is likely to come into the starting side, while Yeferson Soteldo had also been under consideration before a fitness setback.

Soteldo felt pain in his left thigh and missed the last round against Flamengo. He remains a doubt and could yet be another absentee.

Fluminense will also be without Martinelli and Canobbio, both suspended after a third yellow card. Matheus Reis, Nonato, Bernal and Germán Cano are also doubts for the match.

The sides approach the game in contrasting form. Fluminense lost 2-1 to Flamengo, while Santos arrive on the back of a 1-0 win over Atlético-MG.
