Paulo Fonseca spoke to the media after AC Milan’s 2-0 defeat to Napoli this evening. Despite the result, the manager was surprisingly optimistic and even said that he is ‘more confident than ever’.

Milan conceded early in the game and even though they managed to recover a bit, playing-wise that is, the away side were just too clinical and scored again before the break. From there on, it was uphill for Paulo Fonseca and his side.

After the game, Fonseca spoke to DAZN (via MilanNews) and shared his thoughts on what went wrong for the Rossoneri. Despite the situation in the standings, the manager stated that he is ‘more confident than ever’ that Milan are onto something.

On the match…

“If we look at the result, they scored two goals and we scored none despite the chances we had. We conceded a goal after 5 minutes, then we reacted well by playing quality football, they dropped back. It wasn’t easy to create so many chances against a team like Napoli. However, they scored two goals, unfortunately we didn’t.”

On absences…

“I don’t like to make excuses and talk about the absentees. It’s true that important players were missing, but those who played did so well. We are a united team. I’m sure that by playing like this we will have a positive future.”

On the standings…

“I’m more confident than ever because I see how the team is changing and growing. It’s true that the result wasn’t positive, but it’s still early, there are many games to play. I remain confident.”

On growth…

“I don’t like to talk about individuals, I prefer to talk about the team. We made mistakes in the two goals. We have to continue working because we can still improve a lot”.

Milan will take on Monza next, scheduled for this Saturday at 20:45 CET, and winning is the only option for the Rossoneri. Napoli already have a huge advantage and unfortunately, it looks rather unlikely that Fonseca’s men will be able to catch up (at least not anytime soon).
