Forest January plan, McNeil interest and Boly could depart

Nottingham Forest are preparing for a quiet January under Sean Dyche after a £200 million summer and 13 signings. According to NY Times, the squad looks balanced and only limited movement is expected.

An improving injury picture supports it. Chris Wood, Ola Aina, Taiwo Awoniyi and Dilane Bakwa are back in training, and Ryan Yates has also returned. Aina and Neco Williams can cover left back.

Dyche has suggested the window is likely to be slow, though he will act if the right opportunity appears. Any addition would have to significantly raise the level.

There is interest in reuniting with Dwight McNeil, but any move might wait until after January. Out wide, Omari Hutchinson is thriving, Bakwa is highly regarded and Dan Ndoye impressed early, while Callum Hudson-Odoi scored twice in the 3-0 win over Tottenham.

Forest are not pushing sales, yet Willy Boly could depart if the right proposal arrives. He has not played a Premier League minute this season, his last action was an 89th-minute cameo in the 2-2 draw at Real Betis in the Europa League, and his contract expires in the summer. With Wood regaining fitness, any interest in Awoniyi will be treated cautiously.

Forest remain optimistic on profit and sustainability compliance after last March’s four-point deduction, having balanced spending with sales including Anthony Elanga to Newcastle for £52 million, Danilo for £22 million and Ramon Sosa for £11 million. The January budget will be tight and further sales are more likely in the summer.
