A sidelined member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid currently stands as the 2nd-highest earner in the club’s first-team squad.

That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards David Alaba as the player in question.

Stopper Alaba has of course seen his future in Spain’s capital thrown very much up in the air over recent weeks.

This comes amid the understanding that, fresh off another injury-plagued campaign in 2024/25, the Real Madrid brass have opened the door to a summer departure for the Austrian international.

And if the latest word stemming from the media this weekend is anything to go by, then it is not hard to see why…

‘Alaba has the second highest salary in the squad’, behind only top scorer Kylian Mbappé.

The former Bayern Munich man’s current wage packet at the Santiago Bernabéu? €22.5 million-per-year.
