A former member of the defensive ranks at Atlético Madrid has moved to reveal his appreciation for the talents of Real Madrid standout Vinícius Jr.
This comes amid the suggestion that, despite a somewhat underwhelming campaign last time out, the Brazilian remains world football’s standout player.
Wide-man Vinícius is of course fresh off a season which culminated in frequent and at times ruthless criticism.
After being pipped to the Ballon d’Or by Manchester City star Rodri, the 24-year-old struggled to rediscover his best form, amid what was a down season for all at Real Madrid.
As alluded to above, though, one individual of the opinion that, on his day, Vinícius remains the game’s very best, is fellow countryman Filipe Luís.
Speaking to the media over the weekend, ex-Atlético defender Luís, the current manager of Brazilian heavyweights Flamengo, explained:
“The best player in the world is from Flamengo and he’s not here, because he went to Europe to play with the best.”
