Former Barcelona striker Marc Guiu has spoken openly about his decision to leave the club in the summer of 2024 and sign for Chelsea.

The 19-year-old talent, who made a dream debut for Barça under Xavi, insists he does not regret the move.

Guiu became a sensation when he scored the winning goal just 23 seconds into his debut against Athletic Bilbao, securing a 1–0 victory with only his second touch.

He went on to feature in six more matches and even found the net in the Champions League.

Despite this promising start, he decided to take a new direction in his career after receiving a personal call from Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.

“I don’t regret having left Barça. I left because I thought it was the best thing for my career and what I have to do now is enjoy the Premier League. It was a difficult decision, Barça gave me everything. It was my home.

“There were a lot of strikers and they didn’t guarantee me to be in the first team, so I think I chose the best option.

“Maresca called me and told me that he trusted me and the sporting project was incredible,” Guiu revealed during his interview with RAC-1’s Tu Diràs.

No conversation with Flick

Guiu also mentioned that he never got the chance to talk directly with the new Barcelona coach, Hansi Flick, before leaving.

“I didn’t get to talk to Flick. He sent me a message when we were playing in the play-offs.

“I don’t know what would have happened if Xavi had stayed, but since it didn’t happen, I don’t want to think about it,” he explained.

Looking ahead, the Catalan forward is preparing for one of the biggest moments of his career — facing Barcelona in the Champions League with Chelsea.

“It will be a special match, the match of my life. Hopefully, I can get minutes. The key to Chelsea is the unity and the work of the coach. He works very well tactically, the training sessions are intense.

“I’m sure he has influence from Guardiola, the training sessions are very similar to those of Barça, with a lot of ball and a lot of positional play. I’ve already told Cuba that I’ll blow it up, although I wouldn’t celebrate a goal,” said Guiu.

The teenager made a bold statement about his new team, declaring, “Chelsea are the best team in the world at the moment.

“They have a squad, player by player, incredible. Maresca is very good and when we go out on the pitch, we know what to do. The opponent has nothing to do,” he concluded.
