Former Gunner to join Crystal Palace on free transfer | OneFootball

Takehiro Tomiyasu is set to join Crystal Palace on a permanent deal, having convinced the club to hand him a contract after a trial period.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Crystal Palace have agreed to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu as a free agent, with the player already having passed a medical in London.

Tomiyasu will sign his contract in the next 48 hours to join Palace permanently.

Sami Mokbel confirms for the BBC that Palace are going ahead with the Tomiyasu signing, with his trial spell at the club considered a success.

Tomiyasu has been training with Palace recently, and he first made their matchday squad for a pre-season game against Lens last week on Tuesday.

Though the 27-year-old was an unused substitute on that occasion, he did then make a 30-minute debut as a substitute in Palace’s subsequent friendly against Al-Ula on the Friday.

Palace had already put in place a broad agreement on personal terms prior to the trial, and they left it up to head coach Pierre Sage whether to proceed with making the move official. That is seemingly now set to happen.

Prior to the World Cup, Tomiyasu made his long-awaited return from injury with Ajax, appearing seven times for the Dutch club on a short-term contract. He then made three appearances for Japan at the summer international tournament.

Tomiyasu recently spoke out about his frustrations during the latter period of his spell at Arsenal, saying: “I never imagined I would go through such a tough time at Arsenal, because I’ve always taken great care of my body. I’ve probably done more than anyone else.

“My first six months in London were amazing. It was like a dream. I can understand if my approach was wrong. Some players don’t get injured even if they party after a match. I didn’t do anything reckless, yet it happened to me. I felt frustrated at that time.

“Eventually, you realize that things happen in life that you can’t control. There’s no point in getting angry about them. Everything goes on.”
