Sadio Mane has shared a heartfelt message honouring his former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota, adding to the growing list of emotional tributes from across the footballing world. The Senegalese forward, who spent two years playing alongside Jota, posted the message on Instagram, reflecting on the deep sadness felt within the Liverpool camp.
Writing in French, Mane spoke with a tone of quiet devastation. “Your passing leaves a void because you left in the prime of life. This causes us great pain and dismay — a feeling deeply shared by all of us who worked with you every day for years at Liverpool FC. Forever in our hearts ”
His post followed the funeral of Jota, who was laid to rest alongside his younger brother Andre Silva in Gondomar. The loss has stunned the Liverpool dressing room and left a void that is both personal and collective.
Mane, now 33, was more than just a teammate to Jota. The pair developed a strong rapport at Anfield, sharing responsibilities across the forward line and forging a connection off the pitch. That closeness came through in Mane’s words, quietly echoing the sentiments of a squad bound by something deeper than football.

Liverpool have confirmed they will honour Jota’s contract in full, a move that was reported by Record and widely praised. There has also been speculation over whether the club will retire the No.20 shirt he wore, though the club’s statement left room for interpretation and clarity may follow in the coming days.
