“You know the four, right now, if I was going to put money on and going these four, and you know what, it probably won’t even be these four that go and dominate the Premier League and do crazy things,” Ferdinand said.

“Jesse Derry, I know his dad, Shaun, he’s an ex-player, but I know the kid, wow, ridiculous, not only a talent, but an actual, like, as a kid who loves, loves the game.

“You know, certain kids, they just love football and live and breathe it. All the time, he makes those easy passes and the balls that you see, like, still, he’s one of those kids.”

It’s an interesting choice – we can all see Jesse has loads of talent, and he recently made his first team debut. But compared to some players in the recent past (and the present) of the academy, we wouldn’t say that there’s a huge amount of hype around him.

Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, for example, feels more highly rated within Cobham at the moment.

Omari Kellyman’s move to Cardiff on loan was largely ignored by Chelsea fans, but he’s found his feet now in League One.

Axel Disasi’s move to West Ham has been a huge success, and his captain came out to praise him for his performances this week.
