Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is just one strike away from equalling his greatest ever return of league goals in a season.
The United academy product left the club for SSC Napoli last summer after making 255 appearances in all competitions.
And the 27 year old has not looked back once as he is enjoying a highly successful season at the Italian club as they sit top of the Serie A table.
The Scot has been a regular feature this season, playing in 22 league matches out of the 25 they have played.
He has also notched six goals in the campaign, which means he is 19th in the goalscoring rankings.
Fellow former United player Romelu Lukaku is the only Napoli player who has scored more with nine goals to his name in the league.
AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders is also the only midfielder who has more league goals than McTominay this season in Serie A.
The Scot’s best ever goalscoring season was last year when he found the back of the net seven times for United and he is only one away from matching the total and two from beating it.
He recently found the net a couple of weeks ago in a 1-1 draw with Udinese and he was also on the scoresheet in a vital 3-2 away win over Atalanta last month.
It has not only been the frequency but also the importance of the matches that the Scotland international has scored in that has drawn attention.
To be fair, he also had a habit of doing this for United as he scored against Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and in an FA Cup semi-final during his career at Old Trafford.
Interestingly, no United player has scored more league goals than McTominay this year as Amad also has six strikes but with the Ivorian out injured for the rest of the season, he will not add anymore.
With nine league matches still to play, the Carrington product will fancy his chances of breaking his personal best as he pursues the first league title of his career.
McTominay will get his first chance tomorrow when Napoli travel to face Como, before they welcome Inter Milan to Naples next Saturday for a mouth-watering top of the table clash.
