Igor Tudor is reportedly set to leave his interim role at Tottenham Hotspur, with a former Newcastle United manager potentially in charge by the time Spurs visit Sunderland next month.

According to TeamTalk, Tudor is expected to depart by mutual consent after weeks of internal talks, with an internal agreement that a change would follow a defeat to Nottingham Forest, and he is ready to step away following the passing of his father Mario.

The former Juventus and Croatia defender took over after Thomas Frank’s exit last month and opened with a 4-1 home loss to Arsenal. He has not won any of his five Premier League matches, taking one point in a 1-1 draw at Liverpool.

His sole victory came in a 3-2 home win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of 16 second leg, which could not overturn a 5-2 first-leg defeat in Spain. Spurs then produced a poor display in a 3-0 home loss to fellow strugglers Forest, leaving them one point and one place above the relegation zone.

A shortlist to replace Tudor is said to include former Monaco boss Adi Hutter and ex-Newcastle manager Chris Hughton, both viewed as viable options. Hughton played over 300 times for Spurs and spent 14 years on the coaching staff in various roles.

Hughton left Tottenham in February 2008 to join Newcastle as first-team coach, later taking the job permanently after an interim spell. He remains the last manager to lead Newcastle to a home win in a Tyne-Wear derby in October 2010.

If a change is made, the new interim manager’s first game would be at Sunderland on Sunday, April 12.
