Real Madrid is gearing up for a major overhaul of its defensive lineup next season, as they look to add more depth to the team.
The club particularly identified the left-back position as a focus area, with the club not ruling out the permanent exit of players like Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia.
According to Cadena SER, at the heart of this transformation could be a familiar name: Miguel Gutierrez. The former Real Madrid defender, now at Girona, is emerging as a crucial piece in the club’s plans to refresh its options on the left flank.
The current setup at Real Madrid features Mendy and Garcia, but with Alphonso Davies’ transfer from Bayern Munich nearly finalized for the upcoming season, changes are imminent.

The arrival of Davies, known for his explosive pace and attacking flair, could push Mendy or Garcia out of the squad, or perhaps both, as the club considers a dual exit to make room for new talent.
Gutiérrez’s role in this overhaul is crucial. His performances at Girona have not gone unnoticed, where he has thrived in a system that allows him to contribute offensively while maintaining defensive solidity.
His familiarity with the club’s philosophy from his time in La Fabrica, combined with his recent development, makes him an attractive option for Real Madrid.
The decision to potentially reintegrate Gutierrez could be seen as a move to blend youth with experience, providing competition and depth to the left-back position.
