Former World Cup winner Sami Khedira has never been one to hide his opinions.
The ex-Germany international and former Real Madrid midfielder recently spoke to AS, where he reflected on the current state of European football, and his comments on Barcelona have sparked debate.
Barcelona, under Hansi Flick, have faced turbulence in recent weeks, losing two of their last three matches.
For a side chasing major honours, that dip has raised questions about balance and consistency. Khedira, however, believes such phases are natural over a long season.
Addressing Barça’s situation directly, he explained,
“True, but crises in results are part of every season. And perhaps it has come at a good time: the Champions League round of 16 is still to come, and the next Clásico is in May, so there is still time.
“Barça’s style is risky: if the ball doesn’t go in and Lamine isn’t on form, the defence can’t save them.

“It’s often said that titles are won by the defence. At Barça, they’ve only won by the attack. Flick is betting on a bold style that usually pays off.”
Beyond Barcelona, Khedira also touched on the difficult moment facing Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The German goalkeeper has endured a frustrating period, losing his undisputed starting spot at club level and then suffering another injury setback at a crucial time.
Khedira did not hide his sympathy. “It’s one of the cruellest stories.
“You finally have the opportunity to be number one, and in a World Cup no less, and then you get injured again. It’s really tough. As an athlete, I feel really sorry for him.
“But Baumann is also doing well. He’s not Neuer, but he’s performed well for Germany,” he noted, while also stating that Germany could be one of the favourites to win the World Cup.
