Former Real Madrid player, coach and sporting director Jorge Valdano has spoken about Vinicius Jr.’s anger after being substituted by Xabi Alonso in the match against Espanyol.
The 24-year-old forward started for Los Blancos on Saturday, after being benched against Marseille.
While his performance was not the best, Vinicius was showing signs of coming into his own in the second half and did set Kylian Mbappe for Real Madrid’s second goal.
As such, he was far from pleased from his substitution and reacted angrily, something that Xabi Alonso spoke about after the game in his press conference.
Now, former Real Madrid coach and manager Jorge Valdano has spoken about Vinicius’ reaction on Movistar+, warning that things are not the same as they were under Carlo Ancelotti.
“Vinicius is not the same as he was and the coach is not the same as he was,” said Valdano.
“Now first he will have to improve his level and then convince the coach,” he advised the Brazilian.
For Valdano, “these attitudes displayed in public are not healthy. They are not healthy in any case.”
Analysing the entire situation in detail, Valdano noted: “Vinicius is a man who has been very supported by Real Madrid. He has fought against the world. The people, and even the club, between the world and Vinicius , preferred Vinicius.
“But here we are starting to enter another issue. Vinicius is no longer angry with the world, he is angry with his own coach, and the people at Real Madrid have always put the club before the player.”
Concluding, Valdano stated: “So he should be a little more careful, because there is also implicit in this type of gestures a lack of respect for the player who is going to enter the field.”
