Lucas Lima has parted company with Sport by mutual agreement. According to Diario Do Peixe, the Recife club sought to reduce his wages after relegation to Série B and the midfielder no longer wished to remain.
Before joining Sport, he was back at Santos for a second spell but, after the club’s relegation, he lost his place amid supporter unrest. He moved on loan to Sport in 2024 and later signed permanently. That year Sport paid R$ 500,000 to field him in the final round of the Brasileirão, when he scored two against Santos.
For Santos in 2023 he made 50 appearances, scoring two and supplying 11 assists. He trained with Group B and was sent to the under-20s preparing for the Equality Cup in Qatar before the loan.
Across his Santos career he played 253 games, scored 21 and delivered 66 assists, equalling Neymar as the club’s leading assist provider of the 21st century. He won the Paulistão in 2015 and 2016.
Capped by Brazil, he declined a new deal with Santos in 2017 and left for Palmeiras before his contract expired. He struggled to reproduce his previous form there and was loaned to Fortaleza. He had been training in Santos before agreeing his return, when he posted a video apologising for the manner of his departure.
