According to Sunderland Echo, former Sunderland loan target Jan Paul van Hecke is set to join Tottenham after Brighton accepted a £52m offer for the Dutch centre-back.
The 26-year-old had been linked with a temporary switch to Wearside earlier in his Brighton career, but stayed and established himself as one of the Seagulls’ most reliable performers.
He has 12 months remaining on his contract and had shown no inclination to extend. Brighton previously rejected one bid, but have now agreed terms with Spurs, with a significant sell-on clause understood to be included.
Van Hecke joined Brighton from NAC Breda in 2020 and has made 131 appearances for the club.
He was a key figure last season, starting 36 of 38 Premier League matches as Brighton finished eighth and secured European qualification for only the second time in the club’s history.
Van Hecke also started for the Netherlands in their 2-2 draw with Japan at the World Cup on Sunday, underlining his growing international profile.
