Former Zamalek star Ahmed Hossam “Mido” urged officials to add financial rewards to keep teams motivated in the Egyptian Premier League.

Mido raises concern over League motivation

Former Zamalek player & coach Ahmed Hossam Mido sparked debate with comments about the level of competition in Egyptian Premier League.

Mido warned that some teams lose motivation late in the season when they are no longer fighting for the title or a place in continental competitions.

He said this situation could weaken the quality of matches during the final rounds of the league campaign.

Proposal for financial rewards

Mido’s comments came in response to remarks by president of ENPPI who recently spoke about the lack of incentives for some teams near the end of the season.

According to Mido, the solution should come from the Egyptian Professional Clubs Association. He suggested introducing graduated financial bonuses based on final league positions.

In his view, such rewards would encourage every team to keep competing until the last round.

Writing on his account on X, Mido said president of ENPPI comments were realistic and raised important issue about motivation in the league.

“Teams must fight until the last week”

Mido stressed that clubs should continue fighting for results even if they have no chance of qualifying for African competitions. He warned that without incentives, the league could lose its competitive edge in the closing stages.

He added that financial motivation could help maintain strong competition and prevent the championship from becoming predictable or less exciting.

Debate over League system

The discussion comes amid wider debate about the structure and financial returns of Egyptian Premier League.

Several clubs have called for better revenue distribution and stronger incentives to help maintain competitiveness throughout the season.
