Leeds United could have up to 10 matches left, yet four players may already have made their final start, perhaps for good.

According to Leeds Live, after the international break comes the FA Cup quarter-final at West Ham, then a seven-game run-in, so fringe minutes will be limited. Ilan Meslier and Alex Cairns have not featured all season and are excluded.

Sebastiaan Bornauw has battled injury yet helped the cup run and survival push. He looks last in the centre-back queue, sometimes off the pace and less threatening in the box, struggling for rhythm.

Facundo Buonanotte’s only start was a below-par debut against Birmingham City in the FA Cup fourth round. He has been omitted from six of the last seven Premier League squads and stayed on the bench in the win over Norwich City.

Joel Piroe started and scored against Norwich in the previous round, but he has not begun a match against Premier League opposition since August and that seems unlikely.

Sam Byram’s only start came in August in the League Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, substituted on 71 minutes. He has since made 11 league squads without playing, his last action a seven-minute cameo in the 4-0 loss at Arsenal. In this back-three set-up, Daniel James and Wilfried Gnonto could still start, perhaps at West Ham or if Farke rethinks the league side.
