According to Globo.com, referee Lucas Canetto Bellote has been removed from the Federação Paulista de Futebol’s appointments after his display in Santos v Corinthians at Vila Belmiro on Thursday night.
Bellote showed 14 yellow cards and awarded a late foul in Santos’ favour that Corinthians vehemently contested. The home side equalised from that stoppage-time play.
In the coming days, Bellote will undergo a review of refereeing concepts and specific training. He had been set to act as the VAR assistant for Capivariano v Primavera on Sunday, but has already been removed from that assignment.
An internal assessment judged his performance very poor, with eight bookings for Santos and six for Corinthians.
After the match, Corinthians head coach Dorival Júnior blamed the draw on the officiating. He said Bellote has previously imposed himself aggressively and disrespectfully when acting as fourth official, and that his decisions influenced the game and cost his side the result their display warranted.
