Kylian Mbappe is having a sensation 2026 World Cup, and the Real Madrid man’s form continued on Thursday as he scored in France’s 2-0 victory over Morocco in the quarter-finals. However, it was not a straightforward match for the 27-year-old, as he missed an early penalty and was forced off late on with an injury.

Mbappe, who was the subject of racist comments from a Paraguayan senator earlier this week, went down holding his ankle, and despite his best efforts to play on, he was forced to leave the field of play on 77 minutes. This immediate sparked fears of a possible injury, which could make him a doubt for France’s semi-final against Spain or Uruguay on Tuesday.

Fortunately, the issue does not appear to be serious, with France head coach Didier Deschamps revealing that Mbappe has a “small problem” when he spoke to the media post-match (via MD).

“Kylian, he has a small ankle problem. He felt some pain.”

Real Madrid will be keeping an eye on Mbappe situation

France supporters will have had their fears allayed on the back of Deschamps’ comments, although there will be more concern at Real Madrid. They cannot afford one of their star players to get injured at the World Cup, as it could mean that they miss the start of the 2026-27 season, which has been pushed back for Los Blancos in the wake of Mbappe, Aurelien Tchouameni and Ibrahima Konate reaching the semi-finals.

Real Madrid will hope that France take zero risks with Mbappe, as it could impact on whether he carries an injury into the start of the new season. There will surely be talks between the club and FFF officials in the next 24-48 hours as clarification will be sought from Valdebebas, although they are unlikely to have much of an influence as to whether he plays against Spain or Belgium next week.
