France became the second European nation to qualify for the 2026 World Cup courtesy of Thursday’s 4-0 win against Ukraine. Les Bleus are certain to win the European Qualifiers’ Group D before Sunday’s away dead rubber against Azerbaijan, for which Didier Deschamps is expected to field a second string team with PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier given his first start.

However, Deschamps and the French FA planned their 2026 summer trip to America for several months now, L’Equipe can reveal. The national team manager will attend the finals draw held at Washington DC’s Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, December 5. Deschamps will be accompanied by his trusted deputy coach Guy Stéphan – father of QPR manager Julien Stéphan – and by French FA president Philippe Diallo.

As soon as their World Cup fixtures will be known, France will make a decision over their team base camp. L’Equipe understands that Les Bleus will most certainly choose a base in the United States. The French FA will reportedly seek a modern and cohesiveness-oriented camp, near their designated training ground. France’s base camp for the 2022 World Cup – Doha’s Al Messila Resort & Spa – is reportedly the French FA’s template.

As for the number of players that will make Deschamps’ World Cup squad, the outlet understands that the national team manager will call up 26 players. The squad list announcement is set to occur mid-May.
