Min-Hyeok Yang has barely featured for Coventry City since his January loan switch from Spurs
Under Frank Lampard, Coventry City made numerous additions to the playing squad during the January window, including Yang Min-hyeok on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, but he has yet to be given the chance to make an impact at the CBS Arena as yet.
The Sky Blues came flying out of the blocks in the first half of the campaign, romping towards the summit of the Championship table with a healthy lead, looking to be outright favourites to go on and claim the league title.
However, in the past month or so, something has changed at Coventry, and they no longer appear to be the same side that were blowing teams across the second tier out of the water.
Their squad has largely stayed the same beyond the January window, with no major outgoings to report, and if anything, has actually gotten stronger with the additions of the likes of Jahnoah Markelo on a permanent deal from Swiss side FC Zurich, whilst Romain Esse, Frank Onyeka, and Min-Hyeok Yang have all joined on loan from Crystal Palace, Brentford, and Spurs, respectively.
Yang, in particular, spent the first half of the campaign on loan with Championship strugglers Portsmouth and made the move to Coventry on loan with the promise of more game time, having played just over 600 league minutes at Fratton Park.
Though that promise has yet to be fulfilled by Lampard, with Yang earning just half-an-hour of league football with the Sky Blues so far, and with the club clearly going through a rough patch, his introduction could help to shake things up and fulfil the promise.

Indeed, with just 30 minutes of league football since his winter move to the CBS Arena, it hasn’t exactly been the loan switch that Yang would have been hoping for following his departure from Portsmouth.
Still only 19 years of age and a fully-fledged South Korean international, Yang is highly thought of by Spurs, becoming the first player in K-League history to be awarded the Young Player of the Month award five times, as well as becoming the youngest goalscorer in the history of K League 1 before his switch to the English capital in January 2025.
Upon his arrival just over a year ago, Yang immediately headed out on loan to the Championship, travelling across the city to link up with Queen’s Park Rangers, where he scored twice and grabbed one assist in 14 league games.
Now, Yang has found himself on the fringes of both Portsmouth and Coventry, somewhat unfairly, and Lampard should consider giving the South Korean a fair run in the team to show what he is capable of.
The Sky Blues have a treasure trove of wingers at their disposal, with the likes of Ephron Mason-Clark, Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, Romain Esse, Jahnoah Markelo, and Yang to pick from, though only two are likely to be on the pitch at any given time.
Most effective on the left, where he can cut in with his right foot, but more than capable of playing off the right, Yang has fallen victim to the competition for places out wide.
With Coventry currently floundering, Yang must be considered as a serious option to start for the Sky Blues in the coming weeks, in a move that could benefit everyone involved.

A big reason for Spurs allowing Yang to make the move from Portsmouth to Coventry was the reported promise of more game-time, and with the clubs at two completely different ends of the table, it seemed a no-brainer for Thomas Frank’s side.
Though with his lack of game time evident, Spurs will no doubt be frustrated with the way Yang has been managed thus far, and will be as keen as anyone to see the South Korean earn some regular minutes.
Mason-Clark missed Coventry’s goalless draw at home to Oxford United, with Esse deputising out on the left, with Yang limited to a late substitute appearance from the bench.
Lampard simply must consider using Yang from the start to shake things up in the Sky Blues ranks, as with their form having seriously fallen off in recent weeks, they risk dropping out of the top two before too long if they are not careful, with the likes of Middlesbrough, Ipswich Town, Hull City, and Millwall closing in.
Yang could well prove to be the hero that Coventry needs right now, and Lampard must give the teenager a chance to show exactly what he is capable of before too long.
