Che Adams has previously been the subject of reunion talk at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park

A fresh transfer claim has emerged involving Birmingham City and their former hotshot, Che Adams, who still features for Serie A giants, Torino, at present.

According to Birmingham Live, chiefs at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park are not against the idea of a "sentimental signing" which could involve the Scotland international, who was sold to Southampton six-and-a-half years ago.

It has been made no secret that Blues were looking to immediately stamp their authority on the Championship this term, with ownership group, Knighthead Capital Management, hoping to oversee great strides of progress that will culminate in a first Premier League stint since May 2011.

After returning to the second tier as record-breaking League One champions, the West Midlands outfit underwent yet another summer of strong and high-profile activity under the management of Chris Davies.

Indeed, 14 permanent or temporary signings were made in B9 over the course of the summer months, whilst Birmingham, rather ruthlessly, bid farewell to the likes of Krystian Bielik and Alfie May.

The latter, of course, was expected to see his previously regular gametime diminish despite a 16-goal haul last term, with Blues opting to recruit Kyogo Furuhashi and Marvin Ducksch from Stade Rennais of Ligue 1 and Bundesliga side, Werder Bremen, respectively.

The aforementioned duo make up half of Davies' natural centre-forward options at present, alongside the poster-boy of Knighthead's rebuild and club-record signing, Jay Stansfield, as well as seasoned Championship campaigner, Lyndon Dykes.

However, with the Second City side currently residing in 14th place, seven points behind the top six after an accumulation of 34 points from 26 games, the club's transfer plans between now and February 2nd have been widely reported.

Football League World understand that as many as eight players could leave St. Andrew's between now and the transfer deadline, with Blues already bidding farewell to Emil Hansson and Eiran Cashin on that front.

And, with some of said overhaul potentially impacting Davies' attacking options, a potential reunion with his former club for Adams has become a hot topic of discussion once more, with the Leicester-born forward the subject of similar links throughout the summer.

Talk of a potential return to St. Andrew's for the 45-time Scotland international initially surfaced in the final week of Blues' season in League One, with it being claimed that the club were working on an ambitious transfer raid.

Such claims failed to dissipate over the course of the summer, as Football League World exclusively revealed in mid-August that Blues lodged an enquiry over the availability of their former forward, who scored 38 times and posted a further 13 assists in 123 appearances for the club after joining from Sheffield United in the summer of 2016 under Gary Rowett.

The aforementioned revelation did state that the reported £1.75m switch which saw Ducksch - who was the match-winner against Coventry City last time out - came after Birmingham learned that a package for the 29-year-old striker would have been out of the club's financial realms in the short-term, despite investing an eight-figure sum on Kyogo, who is reportedly the subject of a potentially surprise return to Celtic after a dismal six-month period that includes zero Championship goals.

Following on from a report from Football Insider, which claimed that Blues would look to add further depth in the striking department as well as defensive and midfield reinforcements, it was reported that Charlton Athletic hold an interest in Dykes, although FLW understand that Adams' international colleague will not be allowed to depart unless a replacement is sourced.

Birmingham Live now claim that representatives at the club still remain admirers of Adams, and that they are "partial" to a reunion, having already seen the currently-injured Demarai Gray become a star performer under Davies after returning to his boyhood club on a free transfer.

Adams has featured 18 times in Serie A for Torino this season - 10 of which have been starts - scoring three times.

It remains to be seen what will play out on this front in the coming weeks, but there is no disputing that a return to B9 for Adams would be another statement signing for Blues.

Of course, the club have had mixed returns on hefty investments for Stansfield and Kyogo. However, Adams is already a proven goal-getter at Championship level and above, having also aided Saints' return to the top flight under Russell Martin two seasons ago before departing on a free transfer which made the South Coast club a loss of £15m.
