The Mail Online has reported that Dan Meis, a well-renowned US architect, has his sights set on leading the team in the creation of the new 62,000 capacity stadium at the heart of the planned £3 billion Sports Quarter in Birmingham.

Everton's new ground opened this season, and it has been well-received by fans. An unbeaten run there helps, but also, neutrals have credited the new stadium for its design.

The Hill Dickinson Stadium is the 12th-largest sports stadium in England. Now, Meis could be tasked with being the mastermind behind what would be the eighth-largest.

According to Mail Online, American architect Dan Meis, the man behind the likes of The Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, and, most recently, the Hill Dickinson Stadium, is looking to add another English football ground to his resume.

When talking to delegates about the new Everton ground, he was asked what other projects he had in the pipeline, to which he answered, "Obviously, there's the Birmingham stadium project, and we're in the hunt for that."

The article states that non-disclosure agreements and discretion are often part of the stadium design process, so being open with his answer could indicate that a deal has already been made, perhaps.

The Stadio Della Roma, the new ground set to open in 2028 for Serie A side Roma, is one of his current projects, but he may be running a ground-breaking new site for Birmingham alongside that.

The buzz about the new £3 billion Sports Quarter has been live and loud for several months now, and Blues fans can't wait to see the results in a few years time.

Birmingham owner Tom Wagner told the BBC in June that he hopes that the new 62,000 capacity stadium, which would put the Blues' new ground above Anfield and The Emirates, should hopefully be ready to be opened by the 2030/31 campaign.

The ground is also said to have a retractable pitch, similar to the one at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, so large international events can be hosted there, and a separate 15-20,000-seat arena, too.

Ultimately, whoever takes charge of building the stadiums and arenas in this new 125-acre Sports Quarter will be a part of history, and Dan Meis could become part of that.

It's a very exciting time for Birmingham, as they strive on-field to head to the Premier League and beyond in time for their new ground to open by 2030.
