Manchester City have received a request from Vitor Reis to permit a temporary exit from the club this summer ahead of the brand new season, according to reports.
The 19-year-old central defender joined City from Palmeiras last January for a reported fee of £29.6 million, having been earmarked as one of Brazil’s top emerging talents.
Despite high expectations and a long-term developmental plan in place at the Etihad Stadium, Reis did not feature regularly during the second-half of City’s 2024/25 campaign, despite predominantly maintaining first-team training behind the scenes.
While the teenager is still viewed as a future key figure in the City squad, opportunities in Pep Guardiola’s immediate plans remain limited due to the competition at centre-back from the likes of Rúben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Aké, and John Stones.
As such, a loan move has been increasingly anticipated across the summer, particularly as Manchester City officials explore solutions that balance development and keeping Guardiola’s squad numbers as low as possible, as per his own request.
Reis has been a prominent name in recent transfer discussions, especially amid Girona’s interest in a potential double loan deal that also includes Claudio Echeverri. City Football Group links have made the La Liga club an attractive option, but other European sides are now making firm moves of their own.
According to the information of journalist Andre Hernan, Vitor Reis has requested a loan move away from Manchester City this summer with a view towards increased playing time and with his Brazil National Team prospects in mind.
It is revealed that the 19-year-old has already received offers from the likes of FC Porto and Bayer Leverkusen, and while Manchester City believe the player is part of their plans for the new campaign, the expectation is for Reis and the club to reach an agreement soon.
Reis’ request comes at a crucial stage in the window, with City finalising plans for several young talents ahead of the 2025/26 season, while his physical attributes and on-ball confidence have drawn comparisons to the likes of John Stones already.
From City’s perspective, any loan agreement is expected to be carefully structured, with performance clauses, development reports, and long-term protection such as contract extensions or recall options under consideration.
The Premier League giants remain firm in their belief that Vitor Reis has the potential to become a top-level defender within their system, and any exit would only be sanctioned under the right developmental conditions.
With Girona still monitoring the situation closely and several European clubs now seemingly making direct contact, the coming days could be decisive. City are open to accommodating Reis’ request, but only if it accelerates his progress and positions him for a stronger return.
