Claudio Spinelli was unveiled on Tuesday as Vasco’s latest Argentine striking bet. According to Globo.com, he spoke with Vegetti before agreeing to join São Januário.
Vegetti, the standout example, left the club in this window. Before Vasco, he was unknown in Brazil and a Belgrano idol.
In 2023, Vasco signed the then 34-year-old to boost a struggling attack amid a relegation fight. The team were bottom of the Brasileirão in the 17th round.
Announced on a Friday, he arrived Saturday and made his debut Sunday, scoring the winner against Grêmio. He hit 10 in 21 games and was vital in avoiding the drop.
Three years earlier came Cano, little known in Brazil or even in Argentina after long spells in Colombia and Mexico.
He arrived in Rio in January 2020, from Independiente Medellín, scored 43 goals across two seasons and is the club’s third-highest foreign scorer. Despite the goals, Vasco’s struggles eroded the relationship, he could not prevent relegation to Série B or lead a quick return.
Before that, Andrés Ríos contributed between 2017 and 2018, with 71 appearances and 19 goal involvements, 15 goals and four assists, as Vasco reached the Libertadores and finished Carioca runners-up.
Maxi López followed in 2018. Overweight but influential, he helped stave off relegation with seven goals and five assists in 19 league rounds, then left the next year amid unpaid wages and a legal dispute after losing his place.
